We are one of the only offices in the Mooresville and Lake Norman area to offer focused shockwave therapy for musculoskeletal issues!
What is shockwave therapy?
Shockwave uses sound waves, not electricity, to help trigger your body to heal itself.
Short bursts of high energy sound waves penetrate deep into your tissues (our class III device goes up to 12cm!). Focused shockwave is like using a sniper rifle to find and eliminate long standing conditions.
Does it hurt?
Yes and no, the goal is to find the source of the pain you are feeling, so the shockwaves can release it. Some discomfort is expected (4-5/10) and beneficial for improved results. The energy can be adjusted to your comfort level.
Do I have to rest after?
No! Results are apparent immediately after your first session, you can go back to your normal life and activities right away and enjoy the relief. These immediate effects can last ten hours or more. The body continues to repair over the next 2-4 days.
How long does it take?
Pain relief occurs almost immediately following treatment. Typical treatments take about 8-10 minutes. There is a 5-7 day rest period between treatments so your body can continue the repair process. Most conditions have a resolution within 1-5 treatments, some may take longer.
Effects of shockwave therapy:
- Neovascularization: Promotes the growth of new blood vessels, improving oxygen and nutrient delivery.
- Stem Cell Production: Increases the production and release of stem cells from your bone marrow to repair bone, tendon, cartilage, and/or muscle for weeks following treatment.
- Collagen Remodeling: Encourage tendon and ligament fibers to reorganize to heal more effectively.
- Calcium Resorption: For conditions like calcific tendinitis, shockwaves can break up calcium deposits so the body can reabsorb them.
- Pain Modulation: Stimulates your nerves in a way that reduces pain signalling and releases your body’s natural pain killers and endorphins.
Are there any side effects?
Serious side effects are extremely rare. Some of the more common side effects include:
- Mild soreness for 24-48 hours
- Redness, swelling, or bruising near treatment site
- Temporary numbness or tingling
What kinds of conditions is it best for?
Focused shockwave therapy works best for chronic, localized musculoskeletal conditions where normal healing has stalled. Since we can change the treatment depth, focused shockwaves can be used from TMJ dysfunction to plantar fasciitis, and everything in between!
How much does it cost?
Each treatment costs $125, which includes your regular chiropractic treatment and shockwave treatment. We offer a 5-treatment package for $500. Most conditions respond to shockwave therapy within 3-5 visits.
Some successfully treated conditions include (but not limited to):
- Calcific rotator cuff tendinitis
